Galliano said he was inspired by photos he found in the archives of Monsieur Dior dressing his models. This collection was presented in a salon, as it would have been done in the '50s.
It reminds me a bit of the state-of-undress Lacroix (I think?) gowns from the Model as Muse exhibit I saw at the Met:

I love how TV5 (watching the news online is my morning ritual-- it's a war of attrition against my disappearing French) treats the couture shows as news-- it's important to French culture and the economy, after all, but it's also far more interesting than Michael Jackson's funeral.
Oh how I miss the days of stalking the fashion elite.
