Little Things That Have Plagued and Amazed Me, Part 1

Mail on my laptop hasn't been working for a few days-- I felt like a cripple, unable to send emails from my desktop and forced to refresh my browser anytime I needed an update. I used to think it was excessive, having a red flash and a muffled ding! the split second an email was received. Now, of course, I can't function without it. Thanks be to something, I rebooted it for the 50th time, re-set up my account for the 20th, and something worked. Finally.

Last night, in honor of Bastille Day and also because Louis Garrel is hot, I watched Dans Paris. It wasn't very good. For a French movie, even. The cast was terrific and the acting was cool, but there was no discernable plot and I wasn't floundering for meaning just because I watched it without subtitles. Which, I might add, forced me to watch Louis Garrel's mouth move, rather than reading some mistranslated text at the bottom of the screen. Delicious. (I made this for my friends in the Paris program).

It was a bit slow at work today. To pass the time, I picked up a copy of STEP Inside Design magazine and was instantly enthralled. The first article I saw was about designing props and sets for films-- specifically, books and other documents. I had just been on google a few weeks ago, looking for information about the Harry Potter textbooks and Daily Prophet, so that was interesting for me. Theeen, there were articles about '60s album art, advice posters designed by art students, and a mention of the vair cool artist, Richard Doyle. (from Pod Gallery)

What a treasure. I can haz magazine subscription, plz?

The final thing to shock and amaze me? This damn weather. It was upwards of 90 degrees in the city today. Jess is coming on Thursday and I'm excited to show her around Chicago. If it's nintyfuckingdegrees the whole time, it will be a whole lotta sweaty. Less fun. Gross. Pitchfork is on Saturday!
