MMMMM::crunch crunchcrunch::mmmm::sprinkling of crumbs on keyboard::
I FOUND A PATISSERIE!! And I am now currently eating a crunchy yet soft baguette. I shouldn't have to point out that it cost me the same amount as maybe 3 or 4 baguettes would in Paris, but. I was in the mood.
South Kensington is the SHIT. Seriously! I already mentioned how I love to go for walks at night and creepily stare into peoples' apartments through their huge, lit windows. But I just discovered the area around the tube stop, and it's full of (overpriced) crêperies, cheese stores, patisseries, and restaurants. Delicious!
Last night I saw Cinderella at the Old Vic Theatre in Southwark. It's a play by Stephen Fry set to terrific music, and it was hysterical. I died laughing for most of the show: the ugly stepsisters in drag, the narrator in drag, and the gay romance between Cinderella's friend, Buttons, and Price Charming's friend. Because it was my first time to Southwark, I made sure to do it right-- I ate dinner with Jess at the Anchor & Hope, an amazing gastropub serving Young's and fish stew. Then after the show, we checked out the bar at the New Vic, which is beautiful and serves pretty cheap cocktails.
After class today, I made my first (of, probably, many) trip to Notting Hill. I knew most of it would be pretty dead on a Thursday afternoon, and it was. The brightly painted houses and cute little roads lined with shops were so pretty, though! I wandered around and then had some tea in a freetrade shop facing the streets where Portobello Market will be. A short trip to Selfridge's landed me some fresh fresh salmon for dinner, and a renewed appreciation for food halls in department stores. Lurve.
Tonight it's the welcome party at some bars in Covent Garden, and then tomorrow I have the whole day free after my placement interview to get lost in Harrod's and check out with National History Museum. Lovely!
