Little Things I Love About Paris

I love how Parisians say,"C'est pas vrai!" Literally, it means "It's not true!" but Parisians say it to mean "No way!" or "Shut up!" (à la Mean Girls.)

I can't even explain it-- their voices drop like an octave, the words slur, and the eyebrows, inexplicably, rise. Every once and a while, they will add in a lip pout and frantic shrugging. I would have to do it in person for the full effect.

Yesterday at lunch, two of my coworkers said it at the same time, in response to a story another girl was telling. I got the giggles and sat hunched over for a few minutes, trying to erase their eyebrow wiggling and suddenly hoarse voices from my mind. Suffice to say, it is something I will miss terribly when I leave.
